Elias stood at the edge of the garden, his hand resting on the trunk of the seed-tree. Its leaves shimmered with a light that felt both ancient and newborn.
Anya sat beside him, her fingers tracing patterns in the soil. Lena leaned against a nearby pillar, arms crossed, her gaze fixed on the horizon where a hairline crack had appeared just moments ago.
“It’s quiet,” Lena said, her voice flat. “Too quiet.”
