Anya and Lena face the First Silence in the void until a mysterious young man in a coat of stars offers them a way out. He reveals himself as Kael, a gatekeeper from a dying universe, and pleads for their help to stop a greater threat—the Fracture, which is consuming realities. They must decide whether to trust him or stay as anchors for Elias. They choose to follow Kael through the rift, leaving the void behind for a new world on the brink of collapse.
The young man’s hand hovered in the rift, fingers outstretched, stars shimmering along the fabric of his coat. Anya and Lena stared at him, still gripping each other’s hands. The void around them hummed with the First Silence’s hunger, but the rift offered a sliver of warmth, of light, of something other than erasure.
“Who are you?” Lena’s voice came out raw, scraped clean by the gray. She didn’t let go of Anya.
“My name is Kael,” he said. His eyes were old gold, flecked with amber, and they held a weariness that reminded them of Elias—but sharper, more urgent. “I’m a gatekeeper. Like the one you love. But my universe is dying, and I’ve been searching for others who understand what it means to guard doors with your heart.”
