A Race Against Time
Working frantically, they integrate Bartholomew's component into Zorp's ship. The shop is a mess of levitating items and scattered biscuits as the patrol ship draws nearer.
The air in The Galactic Brew was thicker than a poorly brewed pot of Oolong, a chaotic symphony of levitating sugar cubes, a frantic Bartholomew dispensing crumbly digestives with alarming speed, and Barnaby’s own frantic, whispered curses. Outside, the twin moons of Xylos cast an eerie, green glow, but inside, the only light was the frantic flashing of Zorp’s diagnostic tools, casting dancing shadows on walls adorned with vintage tea tins and Barnaby’s frankly excessive collection of novelty teapots.
“Are you *certain* this is the only way, Zorp?” Barnaby wrung his hands, his gaze darting between the increasingly precarious stack of levitating teacups threatening to topple onto the counter and the small, whirring device Zorp had extracted from Bartholomew’s innards. The sentient biscuit dispenser, currently parked precariously on an overturned crate, let out a low, disgruntled hum.
“Affirmative, Barnaby,” Zorp replied, their voice, usually a model of polite calm, now tinged with a frantic urgency that mirrored Barnaby’s own. “Bartholomew’s primary chronometric stabiliser is, by an astonishing cosmic coincidence, precisely the component my propulsion regulator requires. It is… a testament to the universal nature of engineering, is it not?”
