Barnaby’s wings, usually a blur of frantic energy, beat with a newfound steadiness as he approached the hive. The late afternoon sun, a warm, golden butterscotch, painted the familiar hexagonal entrance in hues of honey and amber. He wasn't flying in his usual haphazard, zig-zagging fashion, propelled by the sheer panic of an impending sneeze. No, this was a purposeful, almost regal descent.
