A Clumsy Rescue
In a moment of accidental bravery, Barnaby saves Bartholomew from falling. This unexpected act of kindness surprises even himself, and Bartholomew is stunned.
The air in the Whispering Peaks was thin, a crisp, pine-scented breath that did little to soothe Barnaby’s perpetually ticklish antennae. He clung to a swaying fir branch, a precarious perch that offered a dizzying view of the sheer drop below. His mission: to collect the nectar from the elusive Hypo-Allergenic Bloom, a task that was proving to be about as easy as teaching a caterpillar to fly. Bartholomew, naturally, was trailing him, his smug buzz a constant, irritating hum in Barnaby’s already overloaded senses.
“Having trouble, Barnaby?” Bartholomew’s voice dripped with mock concern, each syllable laced with the venom of a thousand tiny stings. “Perhaps you should stick to polishing the comb. Less… altitude involved.”
Barnaby gritted his mandibles. “I’m perfectly fine, Bartholomew. Just… appreciating the scenery.” He gestured vaguely with a trembling leg towards a particularly uninspiring patch of moss.
