Chapter 12
A Sneezing Detour
A sudden gust of wind triggers Barnaby's allergy. He sneezes violently, accidentally creating a pollen diversion that temporarily confuses Bartholomew.
The Whispering Peaks loomed, their jagged edges softened by a haze of distant mist. Barnaby, ever the optimist despite the constant threat of floral warfare, hummed a jaunty tune as he trekked along the narrow mountain path. His satchel, packed with essentials (a spare handkerchief, a tiny bottle of emergency water, and a half-eaten honey drop for moral support), bounced against his side. Elder Bee Elara’s words echoed in his buzzing mind: "The Hypo-Allergenic Bloom, Barnaby, it grows only where the wind whispers secrets, high in the north-facing crevices."
He imagined the flower, a beacon of hope, its petals shimmering with an otherworldly glow, completely devoid of the dreaded yellow dust that sent him into paroxysms of sneezing. He imagined the cheers of the hive, Queen Beatrice herself bestowing upon him the highest honor – perhaps a tiny crown made of dewdrop diamonds. This thought, more potent than any honey drop, propelled him forward.
Suddenly, a mischievous gust of wind, a playful sprite of the mountains, whipped around a bend, snatching Barnaby’s hat and sending a cascade of unseen, but undoubtedly potent, pollen directly into his sensitive proboscis.
