The wind, a boisterous, invisible giant, tugged at Barnaby’s wings with a playful, yet menacing, insistence. He’d never ventured this far from the hive, and the familiar hum of his colony was now a distant, almost mournful whisper against the roaring symphony of the Whispering Peaks. Elder Bee Elara’s words echoed in his buzzing mind, a low, steady counterpoint to his own thrumming anxiety. “The Hypo-Allergenic Bloom,” she’d said, her voice like dry leaves rustling, “only grows where the air is thin and the winds are fierce. It is a flower of resilience, Barnaby, much like yourself.”

Resilience. Barnaby snorted, a puff of almost-pollen escaping his proboscis and dissolving into the gale. If resilience meant looking like a startled dandelion caught in a hurricane, then he was certainly the most resilient bee in the entire hive. He flapped his wings harder, a desperate flutter against the immense power of the wind. The Peaks loomed before him, jagged teeth biting into the bruised twilight sky, their slopes a chaotic jumble of scree and stunted, wind-whipped pines. Bartholomew’s taunts, sharp and cruel, felt like phantom stings on his antennae. *“Barnaby the Blunderer,”* he’d sneered, his voice dripping with mock pity. *“Off to chase butterflies again, are we? Don’t get lost, little sneeze-puff.”*

Barnaby gritted his mandibles. He wouldn’t get lost. He couldn’t. The hive’s nectar supply was dwindling faster than Bartholomew’s sense of decency, and this was their last, desperate hope. The Hypo-Allergenic Bloom. A flower so rare, so mystical, that most bees considered it a myth, a lullaby sung to drowsy larvae. But Elara, bless her ancient, wise heart, had seen it. And she believed it could save them.
