Chapter 20
The Unwritten Future
The immediate threat is neutralized. Whether Thorne safeguards or destroys the cipher, the future of interdimensional travel remains uncertain, a testament to humanity's endless quest for knowledge.
The silence that descended after the cacophony of the nexus was profound, a physical weight pressing against Aris’s eardrums. The shimmering distortions that had pulsed and writhed moments before had receded, leaving behind only the familiar, albeit now profoundly altered, solidity of his study. The faint glow that had emanated from it during their desperate struggle with Elara Vance and her Obscurati operatives had faded, leaving it looking deceptively ordinary. Yet, he knew better. He had seen the impossible made manifest, had felt the fabric of reality stretch and warp under the strain of their ambition. He had glimpsed the Archivist, not as a voice in his mind, but as a presence, a shimmering tapestry of light and form that defied all earthly geometry.
