The air grew heavy, no longer carrying the gentle breath of the forest but a suffocating stillness. Each step Branden took felt like a descent into a place where light itself struggled to penetrate. The trees, once vibrant and reaching, now stood like gnarled specters, their branches skeletal fingers clawing at the perpetual twilight. He could feel the life force of the woods ebbing, a slow, agonizing drain that resonated deep within his own spirit. The whispers of the kind spirits, the gentle guidance of the Sun Deer, and the stoic presence of the Guardian Owl had led him here, to the heart of the corruption.

He had expected a lair, perhaps a cave or a shrine steeped in shadow. Instead, he found himself in a clearing, eerily silent, dominated by a single, colossal oak. Its bark was a tapestry of deep, bruised purples and sickly greens, pulsating with a faint, malevolent energy. At its base, nestled amongst roots that writhed like serpents, lay the artifact. It was a crystal, no larger than his fist, but it hummed with a power that was both mesmerizing and terrifying. Within its depths, swirling nebulae of darkness churned, occasionally flaring with an inner, corrupted light. This was the source, the blight that had spread like a disease through the ancient forest.

And guarding it, a figure emerged from the shadows of the great oak. It was a stag, but unlike any Branden had ever seen. Its antlers, once noble and branching, were now twisted into sharp, jagged points, dripping with a viscous, black ichor. Its fur, once the color of dappled sunlight, was now a dull, mottled grey, and its eyes, which should have held the wisdom of ages, burned with a raw, unfocused rage. This was no mere beast; this was a spirit, a guardian, twisted and consumed by the very darkness it was meant to protect.
