The air in King Star Magma’s throne room was thick with the scent of stardust and the heavy weight of ancient grievances. Shine stood before him, her heart a hummingbird trapped in her chest, her eyes, usually as bright as nebulae, now clouded with a desperate plea. Beside her, Shade, a silhouette against the shimmering, star-dusted banners of the throne room, radiated a quiet strength that belied the storm brewing within him. They had been brought here, not as lovers, but as transgressors, their secret meetings discovered, their forbidden bond exposed to the harsh light of their warring worlds.
King Star Magma’s gaze, sharp as a comet’s tail, raked over them. His crown, a constellation of spun light, seemed to press down on his brow, deepening the lines of his stern face. “You defy me,” he stated, his voice a low rumble that vibrated through the polished obsidian floor. “You, Shine, a daughter of the Starborn, consort with a creature of the Void. You disgrace your lineage, your people, and the very stars that birthed you.”
Shine’s chin lifted, a familiar spark of defiance flickering in her eyes. “Father,” she began, her voice trembling slightly, but gaining strength with each word, “I do not disgrace anyone. I love him. And love, Your Majesty, is not a disgrace. It is a light, a truth that transcends the boundaries you have so carefully drawn.”
