Thomas's Awakening
My son, Thomas, watches, his young mind wrestling with the unfolding events. His questions are sharp, his observations keen. He begins to see the spiritual battle, the true meaning of our stand.
The air in our sanctuary, once thick with the sweet scent of jasmine and the hum of contentment, now carried a different vibration. It was a tremor beneath the surface, a subtle shift in the very fabric of our peace. Thomas, my eldest, a boy whose eyes held the boundless curiosity of a summer sky, sat by the hearth, his gaze fixed on the flickering flames as if they held the answers to a thousand unspoken questions. His brow was furrowed, a delicate landscape of youthful contemplation, and I knew, with a father's instinct, that the seeds of understanding were beginning to sprout within him, pushing through the soil of innocence.
"Father," he began, his voice, usually a clear bell, now tinged with a hesitant resonance, "why do they watch us so?" His small hand, tracing invisible patterns on the worn rug, stilled. "The men from the village, their eyes… they are like the shadows that creep at twilight."
I knelt beside him, my hand resting gently on his shoulder. The warmth of his small frame was a comforting anchor in the swirling currents of unease that had begun to eddy around our home. "Thomas," I said, my voice soft, my gaze meeting his, "they watch us because we are different. They see the light that shines from within our hearts, a light that they cannot comprehend, and so they fear it."
