The air outside the abandoned warehouse was thick with a silence that felt heavier than any sound. It wasn't the quiet of peace, but the hushed anticipation of a storm, a predator holding its breath. Rain had led us here, his jaw set, his ocean-blue eyes scanning the decaying brickwork with an intensity that made my own breath catch. Kelly was beside me, her hand finding mine, a silent anchor in the rising tide of unease. Jessica, ever watchful, had her fingers laced with the worn leather of a pouch at her hip, a faint glow emanating from within. Jace stood a little apart, his gaze fixed on the building’s shadowed entrance, a low rumble in his chest that I now recognized as a werewolf’s primal warning. Star, perched on a low wall nearby, seemed to absorb the oppressive atmosphere, his usual calm tinged with a grim resolve.

“This is it,” Rain murmured, his voice barely disturbing the stillness. “The entrance to Noctis's domain.”

My stomach twisted. *Domain*. The word conjured images of a king in his castle, a dark lord in his fortress. And here we were, a handful of teenagers and one reluctant protagonist, standing before it. The warehouse, a hulking, forgotten structure, seemed to sag under the weight of the twilight that perpetually clung to it, even though the sun was still high in the sky above us. No birds sang. No wind rustled the dying leaves on the few scraggly trees that dared to grow nearby. It was as if the very life had been leached from this place.
