The polished oak table gleamed under the flickering torchlight, reflecting the anxious faces of my father’s most trusted advisors. I, King David, sat at its head, the weight of my kingdom pressing down on my shoulders like a crown of lead. Before me, my council, a formidable collection of knights, scholars, and strategists, buzzed with a nervous energy. The air in the war room was thick with the scent of old parchment and the unspoken fear of what was to come.
“We cannot simply cede the Sunstone Valley, Your Majesty,” boomed Sir Kaelen, his voice a gravelly rumble that had quelled countless skirmishes. His hand, calloused from years of wielding a sword, slammed onto the table, making the inkwells jump. “It is the breadbasket of our kingdom, the very soil that nourishes our people. To surrender it to Daniel would be to starve ourselves.”
Beside him, Elara, the Queen’s most trusted advisor and a woman whose sharp intellect often outshone the bravest knights, sighed softly. “But war, Sir Kaelen, is a hungry beast. And King Daniel’s armies are not to be trifled with. His reputation precedes him. He has a… brutal efficiency.” Her gaze flickered towards me, a silent acknowledgment of the immense pressure I was under.
