Chapter 17
The Art of Observation
Task seven involves detailed observation. Lillypad must sketch a specific cloud formation, training her eye to notice subtle details and appreciate the fleeting beauty of the sky.
The morning sun, a shy peek through Lillypad’s curtains, felt warmer than usual, as if it, too, knew of the magic waiting. She bounced out of bed, the image of Cathy, the star cat with eyes like nebulae, still lingering from her dream. Twenty tasks. Twenty wishes. It felt like a secret whispered just for her, a treasure map to a world of infinite possibilities. But first, task number seven.
She remembered Cathy’s gentle purr in her dream, the way her voice had resonated like tiny bells. "Lillypad," she had said, her regal head tilted, "your seventh task is to observe. True magic lies in seeing what others miss. Go outside, find a cloud that tells a story, and capture its form with your pencil. Train your eye, little one, to find the extraordinary in the ordinary."
Lillypad loved drawing, but usually, her subjects were more grounded – her teddy bear, the wobbly fence in the garden, the funny-shaped pebble she’d found. Clouds were… well, they were just clouds. They drifted, they changed, they rained. But Cathy had said to *observe*. So, with a determined sigh that was more excitement than weariness, Lillypad grabbed her worn sketchbook and a stubby pencil from her desk.
