Lillypad sat cross-legged on the soft grass of her backyard, her eyes closed, her breath slow and steady. The afternoon sun warmed her face, a gentle caress that encouraged her to sink deeper into the quiet. This was the third task Cathy had whispered to her in the dream, a task that felt both simple and profoundly difficult: to listen. Not just to the usual hum of the world, but to the *real* sounds, the ones that usually floated by unnoticed, lost in the rush of everyday thoughts.

She’d been so eager to start. After the success of her first two tasks – leaving a bright red ladybug on Mrs. Gable’s doorstep for kindness, and finding the forgotten bluebird’s nest tucked away in the old oak tree – a thrill of accomplishment had buzzed through her. Cathy’s wishes felt closer than ever, like shimmering stars just within reach. But this task, “A Symphony of Sounds,” felt different. It wasn’t about doing something for someone else, or uncovering a hidden treasure. It was about stillness, about paying attention to the world *as it was*.

At first, all she heard was the distant drone of a lawnmower from a few streets over, and the occasional rumble of a car.
