Chapter 8
The Jester's Trail
Determined to return home, Pip and Lily embark on a quest to find the missing jester. They follow a trail of dropped juggling balls and faint echoes of laughter.
The grand hall, moments before a riot of joyous celebration, now felt strangely subdued. The lingering scent of roasted boar and spiced wine did little to lift the oppressive gloom that seemed to cling to Sir Reginald Grumbles like a damp cloak. Professor Pip, his usually twinkling eyes now furrowed in concentration, tapped a finger against his chin. "Most peculiar," he muttered, adjusting his spectacles. "The temporal resonance… it's quite… *unhappy*. We can't possibly depart until the prevailing emotional frequency aligns with 'extremely happy'!"
Lily, ever the pragmatist, bounced on the balls of her feet. "So, we're stuck here until Sir Grumbles stops being… well, so grumpy?" She glanced at the knight, who was scowling into his goblet of ale as if it had personally offended him.
"Precisely, my dear Lily!" Pip exclaimed, a flicker of his usual enthusiasm returning. "And our esteemed Sir Reginald's disposition is the primary impediment. He is, as you’ve observed, decidedly un-jolly." He then lowered his voice conspiratorially. "But why? A knight at a feast should be reveling! Perhaps… perhaps he's lost something. A treasured locket? A particularly fine mustache comb?"
