A Toaster's Awakening

The hum of the laboratory was usually a symphony of whirring gears and bubbling beakers, a comforting backdrop to Dr. Phineas Piffle's less-than-graceful scientific endeavors. Today, however, a new note had been struck. It wasn't the familiar *thump* of Phineas tripping over a stray cable, nor the sharp *crack* of a test tube succumbing to an ill-aimed flourish. It was a low, resonant vibration emanating from the chrome-plated, two-slice toaster perched precariously on the workbench. Toastie.
