Dr. Phineas Piffle, a man whose brilliance was matched only by his spectacular inability to navigate a room without at least one minor incident, adjusted his goggles. They were, as usual, slightly askew, perched precariously on the bridge of his nose like a startled bird. His laboratory, a chaotic symphony of bubbling beakers, sparking wires, and the faint, persistent aroma of singed eyebrows, was his sanctuary. Today, however, it was also the stage for what he believed would be his magnum opus.

“Brenda, my dear,” he called, his voice a high-pitched flutter of excitement, “are the chronometers calibrated? Is the existential dread meter set to ‘mildly concerned’?”

From behind a towering stack of scientific journals precariously balanced on a stool, a voice of exasperated calm replied, “Dr. Piffle, the chronometers are set to ‘time,’ and the existential dread meter is currently reading ‘Tuesday.’ And please, try not to blow
