The cafe hummed with the low thrum of conversation and the clatter of porcelain. Amelia, a steaming mug of Earl Grey clasped in her hands, watched Ben across the small, round table. Sunlight, filtered through the station’s grimy arched windows, dusted his unruly brown hair with gold. He was nothing like the meticulously drawn, almost stoic figure she’d imagined from his notebook, nor was he the perpetually grinning adventurer. He was… warmer, more nuanced, his eyes crinkling at the corners when he smiled, which he did often.

Ben chuckled, a deep, resonant sound that vibrated through the small space. “Oh, definitely profound.
