The air grew heavy, thick with an unseen dread that clung to Elara’s cloak like morning mist. The vibrant greens of the Whispering Woods had begun to leach away, replaced by a muted, somber palette. Shadows, once playful dancers among the ancient trees, now stretched and writhed with a life of their own, their tendrils reaching out as if to ensnare her. Morthos, she knew, was at work. His presence was a palpable chill, a whisper of despair that slithered into the very marrow of her bones.
“He’s testing you, Elara,” Silas’s voice, a low murmur like rustling leaves, echoed in her mind. His wisdom was a steady anchor in the swirling disquiet. “He seeks to break your spirit by showing you what you fear most.”
Lyra, perched on Elara’s shoulder, chirped nervously, her tiny wings fluttering. “It feels… wrong. Like a bad dream painted onto the world.”
