The first sliver of dawn, a pale, hesitant thing, bled through the immense windows of the penthouse, painting the opulent room in hues of rose and amethyst. I stirred, a soft groan escaping my lips, the unfamiliar silk sheets cool against my skin. Last night was a fever dream, a kaleidoscope of sensations that still clung to me like the lingering scent of expensive cologne and the ghost of his touch. My head throbbed, a dull echo of the wine, the intensity, the sheer overwhelming presence of him.

Then, a weight shifted beside me. My eyes snapped open. He was there, Dante. Even in sleep, his face was a masterpiece of sharp angles and shadowed depths. His chest, broad and unyielding, rose and fell with a slow, steady rhythm. One arm was flung possessively across my waist, his fingers brushing the curve of my hip. A jolt, sharp and electric, shot through me. I was still here. Still in his world.

Panic, cold and sharp, pricked at the edges of my awareness. I tried to pull away, to slip from his grasp, but his hold tightened almost imperceptibly. He didn’t wake, not fully, but a low murmur rumbled in his chest, a sound that sent a tremor through me. His eyes, however, fluttered open, dark pools that seemed to absorb the nascent light. They fixed on me, a slow, deliberate assessment that made my breath hitch.
