Chapter 5
Penthouse Paradise
Elara is taken to Dante's opulent penthouse. The luxurious surroundings are a stark contrast to her simple life. The night unfolds with an intensity she never imagined, leaving her breathless and disoriented.
The city lights blurred into streaks of neon and gold as the car sped through the night. My heart hammered against my ribs, a frantic drumbeat against the hum of the engine. Each bump in the road sent a fresh jolt of adrenaline through me. I was a sparrow caught in a hawk’s talons, utterly out of my element, and the hawk’s gaze, when it flickered towards me, was as unsettling as it was captivating. Dante Volkov. The name itself seemed to carry a weight, a dark promise.
He hadn’t spoken since he’d pulled me into the sleek, black car. His silence was a tangible thing, a heavy cloak draped over the tense atmosphere. When the car finally slowed, pulling to a stop before a building that seemed to pierce the very stars, my breath hitched. It wasn't just a building; it was a monument to excess. Gleaming glass and steel soared upwards, a beacon in the urban sprawl. The doorman, uniformed and impassive, opened the car door as if expecting us, his eyes never quite meeting mine. It was as if I was invisible, a ghost of a girl plucked from the shadows.
