The stillness of the penthouse was a suffocating blanket, a stark contrast to the chaos I’d stumbled into mere hours before. Dante’s presence filled the vast space, not just his physical form, but the sheer weight of his power, a tangible force that pressed against my senses. He watched me, his eyes, the color of a stormy sea, tracing my every movement as I nervously picked at a loose thread on the silk robe he’d provided. It was ridiculously soft, a whisper against my skin, yet it felt like a cage.

“You’re quiet,” he murmured, his voice a low rumble that vibrated through the polished marble floor and up into my bones. He was sprawled on a plush velvet chaise, a half-empty glass of amber liquid in his hand, the ice clinking softly as he swirled it. The faint scent of expensive cigar smoke still clung to him, a dangerous perfume that was becoming unnervingly familiar.

I swallowed, my throat tight. “I… I don’t know what to say.”
