The silk sheets felt like a second skin, cool and heavy against my flushed body. Outside the panoramic windows, the city glittered, a tapestry of a thousand tiny stars spilled across black velvet. It was a view that still stole my breath, a constant reminder of how impossibly far I’d been plucked from my quiet life. Yet, the opulent cage of Dante’s penthouse no longer felt quite so terrifying. It was more… complicated.
He was asleep beside me, his breathing a low, steady rhythm against my ear. Even in slumber, his presence was a palpable force, a gravitational pull that anchored me. Last night had been a whirlwind, a descent into a world I’d only glimpsed in hushed whispers and fearful glances. And through it all, he had been my anchor. Or perhaps, my captor. The line had blurred so thoroughly, I wasn't sure I could find it again.
