The crimson glow of the city bled through the vast windows of Dante’s penthouse, painting the opulent room in shades of twilight and shadow. He hadn’t spoken much since we’d returned, the charged silence between us a palpable entity, thick with unspoken questions and the lingering scent of his cologne, a dark, intoxicating blend of sandalwood and something wild. I traced the rim of my wine glass, the cool crystal a stark contrast to the heat that still simmered beneath my skin from his touch. It felt like a dream, a dangerous, intoxicating dream I was afraid to wake from.

He finally broke the quiet, his voice a low rumble that vibrated through the plush carpet. "You saw them, Elara. You saw what happens to those who cross me."

I nodded, my throat tight. The memory of the man’s whimpers, the glint of steel, the cold finality in Dante’s eyes – it was etched behind my eyelids. I’d tried to tell myself it was just business, just the way things were in his world, but seeing it, *feeling* the raw brutality of it, was another matter entirely.
