Whispers in the Stacks

The scent of old paper and polished wood enveloped Lily and Tom as they stepped through the grand oak doors of the town library. It was a place that always felt like a hushed secret, a repository of stories waiting to be discovered. Sunlight, filtered through the tall, arched windows, cast long, dancing shadows across the worn Persian rugs. Mrs. Gable, the librarian, a woman whose silver hair was always neatly pinned and whose smile was as gentle as a whispered secret, gave them a knowing nod from behind her imposing desk.

“Looking for something special today, Lily?” she asked, her voice a soft rustle of pages.
