The Elder’s words, like the scent of ancient incense, clung to the Pearl White Dragon long after their audience had concluded. They were a balm to his agitated spirit, a steadying hand against the rising tide of despair that threatened to drown him. He coiled within the secluded, moon-drenched courtyard, his scales shimmering with an inner luminescence, mirroring the celestial bodies above. The chill of the night air did little to cool the fire that now burned brighter within his chest, a resolute flame ignited by the Elder’s quiet faith and his own burgeoning, unyielding love.

“You are not merely a beast, my son,” the Elder had said, his voice a low rumble that resonated deep within the dragon’s bones. “You are a spirit, a guardian, and your heart’s truth is as pure as the pearl from which you draw your name. It was a concept he had long observed, a delicate dance of smiles and stolen glances among the humans, a mystery he had only recently begun to unravel within himself. The Empress, with her regal bearing and eyes that held the wisdom of ages, had unknowingly stirred this slumbering emotion. Her initial apprehension, the subtle flinch when he drew too near, had been a painful sting, but her growing curiosity, the hesitant tilt of her head when he displayed acts of quiet loyalty, had been a beacon. And now, with the chilling pronouncement of Xiao Ying’s arrival, the stakes had been raised to an unimaginable height.
