Elara and Kael face challenges that test their budding trust. They must rely on each other's strengths to survive.
The cold stone of the forgotten passageway pressed against Elara’s cheek, a stark contrast to the warmth of Kael’s hand, which had pulled her just moments before into this hidden alcove. Dust motes danced in the faint light filtering from a crack above, illuminating the narrow space where they huddled, their breaths coming in ragged gasps. The clang of metal on stone, the guttural shouts of pursuit, still echoed in the air, a terrifying symphony that had driven them from the main hall of Trakai Castle.
“Are you alright?” Kael’s voice was a low murmur, laced with concern. He gently pried her fingers from his arm, his gaze searching hers. His eyes, usually so full of playful mystery, were now sharp with urgency.
Elara nodded, trying to steady her racing heart. “Yes, thank you, Kael. You saved me.” The words felt inadequate, a tiny pebble tossed into a vast ocean of gratitude. She had seen the glint of steel, the determined fury in the eyes of the Obsidian Hand, and knew that without Kael’s quick thinking, she would be captured, or worse.
