The prophecy's power is activated, but not in the way the Obsidian Hand intended. It protects Trakai as Elara intended.
The air in the Grand Hall crackled with an energy Elara had never felt before. It hummed, a low, resonant vibration that seemed to emanate from the very stones of Trakai Castle. The Obsidian Hand, their shadowy leader a mere silhouette against the flickering torchlight, had been so close. They had cornered her, their greed a palpable force, their desire for the prophecy’s power a sickening hunger. But as the leader’s hand reached out, intending to snatch the parchment from her trembling fingers, something shifted.
It wasn't a visible change, not at first. It was a feeling, a warmth spreading through Elara’s chest, a surge of something ancient and fierce. The symbols on the prophecy, which had seemed so cryptic moments before, now blazed with an inner light, a soft, golden glow that pushed back the encroaching darkness. Kael, standing protectively beside her, let out a sharp gasp. His eyes, usually so guarded, were wide with astonishment.
"It's… it's happening," he breathed, his voice barely a whisper. "But not as they planned."
