The air in Elder Elara's small, circular dwelling hummed with a stillness that was both ancient and charged. Maiden sat opposite the elder, the scent of dried herbs and woodsmoke a familiar balm, yet today it offered little comfort. The questions that had gnawed at her for weeks, months even, were finally coalescing into a single, terrifying demand. She had faced the shadows within herself, traced the whispers of her lineage, and now, standing on the precipice of what she feared was madness, she needed the truth.

"Elder," Maiden began, her voice a low tremor, "you spoke of the bloodlines, of the old ways. You said there were those who… walked between worlds."

Elder Elara’s eyes, the color of polished obsidian, held a depth that seemed to absorb the flickering lamplight. She nodded slowly, her gaze unwavering. "The veil between the seen and the unseen is thinner for some, child. It is a gift, and sometimes, a burden."
