Arthur sat in the plush, yet somehow sterile, armchair. The therapist’s office was a symphony of muted tones and soft lighting, designed, he supposed, to soothe, but it only amplified the hollowness within him. Dr. Anya Sharma’s presence was a gentle hum, a calm sea in the tempest of his mind. He’d spent weeks wrestling with the decision to be here, each day a battle against the ingrained stoicism that had been his armor for so long. Now, the armor felt heavy, suffocating.

“Arthur,” Dr. Sharma’s voice was a warm, low current, pulling him back from the precipice of his own thoughts. “You mentioned feeling a great deal of pressure. Can you tell me more about that?”

He swallowed, the sound unnaturally loud in the quiet room. Pressure. It was a constant, a low-grade thrum beneath the surface of his everyday life. The mortgage, the demanding job, the unspoken anxieties that swirled around his family like a persistent fog. But it was more than that. It was the weight of expectation, of being the rock, the provider, the one who never faltered. And the crushing disappointment in himself for the times he felt he was crumbling.
