The city had a way of swallowing you whole, of making you feel like a single, insignificant raindrop in a torrential downpour. Seattle, with its perpetual mist and towering buildings, was my home, my sanctuary, and sometimes, my cage. I’d navigated its concrete arteries for years, a small fish in a very large, very busy pond. Then Silas Thorne had entered my life, a rogue wave that had tossed me into uncharted waters. His penthouse, a monument to wealth and power, had been the first whisper of a secret, a place where the air itself felt charged with unspoken things. And then, the room. The room that had unraveled me, that had exposed a part of myself I hadn't known existed, a part that reveled in the edge of pain, the thrill of surrender. I’d fled, a shattered echo of the woman who had walked in, leaving behind a silence that had deafened me.

Weeks bled into months. The memory of Silas Thorne was a phantom limb, an ache that never truly subsided. Chloe, my steadfast anchor, tried to pull me back to the shore of normalcy, but the tide had already turned. We’d grab coffee, the steam misting the windows of our usual haunt, and she’d talk about her latest dating disaster, her voice a gentle counterpoint to the storm raging within me. I’d nod, offer a weak smile, and try to focus on the mundane, on the familiar rhythm of our friendship. But Silas’s face, that arresting gaze, the ghost of his touch, they were always there, lurking just beneath the surface.

“You’re quiet today, Elara,” Chloe observed, stirring her latte with a thoughtful frown. “Still thinking about… him?”
