He guides me through the room, his voice a soft murmur explaining each object. My initial shock gives way to a potent curiosity. I ask for more, for everything, and he obliges, pushing me to a boundary I never knew existed.

The air in Silas’s penthouse was different. It wasn’t just the hushed opulence, the subtle scent of expensive wood and something else, something richer and more intoxicating. It was a stillness, a waiting. He’d led me through the main living space, a panorama of Seattle spread below like a glittering tapestry, and then through a heavy, unmarked door. My heart hammered a frantic rhythm against my ribs, a drumbeat of apprehension and an undeniable thrill.

The room that unfolded before me was unlike anything I could have imagined. Not a bedroom, not a study, but something else entirely. It was vast, dimly lit by strategically placed sconces that cast long, dancing shadows, and filled with an array of objects that made my breath catch in my throat. Smooth, polished leather gleamed under the low light, curves and angles that spoke of purpose, of sensation. There were restraints, sleek and sophisticated, hanging from a beautifully crafted wooden frame. A low, plush bed, far more elaborate than any I’d ever seen, dominated one corner, strewn with silken pillows in shades of deep crimson and midnight blue.

“What is all this?” The question felt small, lost in the expansive space. My voice, usually steady, was a mere whisper.
