Sarah's house was a small bungalow on a quiet street, with a porch swing and a garden of overgrown roses. Shane stood in the living room, phone in hand, staring at the contact name on the screen: Dad. Her thumb hovered over the call button.
"You don't have to do it right now," Sarah said from the kitchen doorway. "We can wait until after dinner."
"No. If I wait, I'll chicken out."
