The air within the forgotten temple was thick with the scent of dust and something else, something ancient and cool, like the breath of a sleeping god. Khepri traced the carvings on the crumbling walls, his fingers following the intricate lines of hieroglyphs that seemed to writhe in the dim light filtering through cracks in the massive stone ceiling. Each symbol was a puzzle piece, a fragment of a story whispered only to the deepest parts of the earth. He had come here seeking answers, drawn by the persistent hum of a forgotten power, a feeling that the papyrus he’d found was merely the first thread of a much larger tapestry.

The journey had been a strange one, even for these times. The world outside the temple walls was a kaleidoscope of shifting colors and impossible shapes, where the familiar contours of the desert seemed to melt and reform like heated wax. The sun, once a benevolent eye in the sky, now cast a light that felt both too bright and too weak, a paradoxical glow that offered no true warmth. Ra’s silence was a palpable thing, a heavy blanket woven from the absence of his glorious roar. And in that silence, Isis’s whispers grew louder, her presence a vibrant, swirling nebula of power that pulsed with a hypnotic rhythm.

Khepri clutched the small, smooth stone he carried, a relic from his village, a tangible link to a world that felt increasingly distant. He remembered the hushed reverence with which his elders spoke of Ra, the life-giving force that had nurtured their land for eons. Now, that life force seemed to be draining away, replaced by a new, unsettling order. Isis, once the nurturer, the mother goddess, now moved with an ambition that prickled Khepri’s skin. He had seen her influence in the way the desert flowers bloomed with unnatural vibrancy, their colors too intense, their scents too intoxicating. He had felt it in the strange dreams that plagued his sleep, dreams filled with towering obsidian structures and eyes that watched from every shadow.
