As Kai began to process the enormity of Eleanor's news, his perspective shifted seismically. The surprise of impending fatherhood, especially under these circumstances, was profound. The air in my living room still hummed with the aftershocks of my confession. Kai sat across from me, his coffee cup cradled in his hands, his gaze fixed on some point beyond my shoulder, as if he were trying to trace the outline of the impossible on the wall.
