Lily confronts the entity, her voice trembling but firm. She uses her knowledge of the legend and her courage, bolstered by the memory of Elara and Old Man Hemlock's wisdom, to face the darkness.
The air in the forgotten chamber hung thick and heavy, tasting of damp earth and something else… something ancient and unsettling. Lily’s heart hammered against her ribs like a frantic bird trapped in a cage. Before her, coalescing from the gloom, was the source of Oakhaven’s sorrow. It wasn't a man, nor an animal, but a shifting, amorphous shape, a silhouette against the faint phosphorescence that clung to the cavern walls. It pulsed with a sorrowful light, and from its shadowy depths, a voice, like the rustling of dry leaves, slithered into her mind.

Lily clutched the smooth, cool stone of the chamber floor beneath her trembling fingers. She thought of Elara, her bright smile, the way her laughter had bounced off the sun-dappled leaves of the oak trees. Elara, who had been promised endless joy, endless play, and had instead been swallowed by this very darkness. The memory was a sharp, painful ache, but it also ignited a fierce ember within Lily.
