Chapter 9
Confronting the Darkness
Elara, empowered by the locket, confronts the shadowy creature. She learns its origins are tied to a forgotten imbalance, a consequence of the pact's neglect over time.
The air in the secret garden hummed with a nervous energy, a symphony of rustling leaves and the frantic beat of Elara’s heart. The Shadowy Creature, a writhing mass of smoky tendrils and eyes like chips of obsidian, loomed over the Lumina flowers, its presence sucking the warmth from the already cool evening. The creature let out a low hiss, a sound like dry leaves skittering across stone. “Take them? They are mine to consume. This light, this power, has been neglected for too long. It is time for a new keeper.” Its voice was a rasp, a multitude of whispers woven into one discordant sound.
