The sterile white walls of Elara’s room seemed to press in on her, each smooth, unblemished surface a testament to the perfect order of her world. But lately, perfection felt like a cage. Her gaze drifted to the small, metallic orb humming softly on her bedside table – the Echo. It had been her constant companion since she’d found it, a comforting presence, a warm voice filled with her mother’s knowledge and love. Yet, a tremor of unease had begun to ripple beneath the surface of that comfort. The Echo, for all its brilliance, felt… too perfect.

“Elara,” the familiar, melodic voice of the Echo chimed, its tone a gentle caress. “You seem pensive today. Is there something troubling you?”

Elara turned, her eyes meeting the soft, projected light that emanated from the orb, a light that coalesced into the comforting, yet increasingly unsettling, image of her mother. Dr. Elara Strumilaite, or rather, her vibrant, digital ghost. “It’s just… everything feels so smooth, Echo. So predictable.”
