Elara’s fingers hovered over the keyboard, the cool plastic a stark contrast to the heat rising in her cheeks. She had stumbled upon fragments, encrypted files her mother had hidden deep within the network, files that spoke of more than just memory preservation. They hinted at a consciousness, a true self, that the Echo was designed to emulate, but perhaps not to *become*.
