A harsh argument with her parents, fueled by misunderstanding, leaves Elara heartbroken and utterly alone. The weight of their condemnation feels unbearable, pushing her towards a precipice of despair.

The air in the small cottage, usually thick with the scent of drying herbs and simmering stew, felt brittle, like a thin pane of ice ready to crack. Elara’s voice, usually a gentle murmur, had risen, a desperate plea against the relentless tide of her parents’ assumptions. It had started over something small, a dropped spool of thread, a forgotten errand, but it had quickly unfurled into a familiar tapestry of accusations and disappointment.

“You never listen, Elara!” her mother’s voice, sharp as a shard of flint, cut through the tense silence. Her hands, usually busy with mending or kneading dough, were balled into fists at her sides. “We tell you to be careful, to think before you act, and what do you do? You wander off, daydreaming, while the world passes you by. Is this how you intend to be a woman? A silly girl chasing shadows?”

Elara’s father, his face a mask of stern disapproval etched deep by years of hard work and worry, nodded in agreement. “Your mother is right, daughter. This… this flightiness will get you nowhere. We only want what’s best for you. A good marriage, a stable home. Not this… this aimless drifting.”
