The wind whipped around me, tugging at my scales as I scrambled up the last rocky incline of Mount Cinder. Each breath was a struggle, not from exhaustion, though there was plenty of that, but from the gnawing worry that had been my constant companion since I’d woken up fireless. Embervale, usually so vibrant and alive, seemed a distant dream from this height. But my gaze wasn't drawn to the landscape.
