Luna's nascent powers flare, a beacon against the encroaching gloom. Her first true test arrives, a dance of courage and burgeoning strength against the Shadow Weaver's tendrils.
The air, once sweet with the scent of pine and the distant murmur of the river, now carried a different scent – a metallic tang, like blood and storm clouds gathering. Luna felt it first, a prickle along her skin, a discordance in the symphony of the forest she knew so well. Her heart, a hummingbird’s frantic wing, beat against her ribs. Beside her, Ren’s hand, warm and calloused, found hers. His grip was a silent promise of solidarity. Makita, ever observant, scanned the treeline, her brow furrowed, while Kael stood a sentinel, his gaze fixed on the unnerving stillness that had fallen over their familiar woods.
“Something’s wrong,” Makita whispered, her voice barely disturbing the heavy silence. “The birds… they’ve all gone quiet.”
As if summoned by her words, a shadow, deeper than any dusk, began to bleed from the edges of the whispering pines. It wasn’t the gentle fading of day, but a hungry, consuming darkness that swallowed light whole. It slithered, amorphous and chilling, across the mossy ground, tendrils of inky blackness reaching like grasping fingers.
