Ignis explains the spring's magic can heal the land and sustain her village. He shares his wisdom, and together they plan how to share its gift without exhausting its power.
The air in the cavern shimmered, not with heat, but with a gentle, pulsing light that seemed to emanate from the very stones. Elara, still catching her breath from the arduous climb, found herself standing before a sight far removed from the terrifying beast she had imagined. Ignis, the dragon of the Whispering Caves, was immense, his scales the colour of a twilight sky, but his posture was one of weary repose, his great head resting on his forelegs. His eyes, vast pools of molten gold, regarded her not with malice, but with a profound sadness that tugged at Elara’s heart.
“You are… not what I expected,” Elara managed, her voice barely a whisper, the bravado she had summoned on her journey faltering in the face of this gentle giant.
Ignis let out a low rumble, a sound that vibrated through the cavern floor and settled in Elara’s chest. It was not a growl, but a sigh, ancient and heavy. “Few ever do, child. Fear paints a fearsome picture, and it is a picture I have allowed to be painted for a very long time.” He shifted, his massive body moving with surprising grace. “You seek the treasure, do you not? The hoard that legend claims I guard.”
