He sat, as he often did, at his worn wooden desk, a Sudoku grid spread before him, its familiar 9x9 confines a universe unto itself. This particular puzzle, however, had been an enigma, a stubborn knot in the otherwise fluid tapestry of numbers. For days it had resisted his patient probing, its anomalous pattern a silent, insistent question.

Aisha entered softly, her footsteps hushed on the woven rug, carrying a tray with steaming mint tea. She paused, observing him, the familiar furrow of concentration on his brow. She had learned to read the subtle shifts in his posture, the way his fingers would tap an almost imperceptible rhythm against the wood when a thought was taking root.

“Master,” she began, her voice a gentle murmur, “the tea is ready.”
