Aisha found Karim in his study, the late afternoon sun casting long, golden shafts across the worn wooden floor. He sat at his desk, not with a Sudoku grid before him, but with a worn copy of Rumi open in his hands, his brow furrowed in thought. The air in the room was thick with the scent of old paper and the faint, sweet aroma of the jasmine that climbed the outside wall. Aisha hesitated at the threshold, her heart a small, tight knot of concern. She loved Karim, admired him deeply, but lately, his absorption had felt like a veil descending between them, between him and the bustling world outside their quiet Sufi center.

“Master Karim?” she ventured softly, her voice barely disturbing the stillness.

He looked up, his eyes, usually so clear and serene, holding a hint of distant contemplation. A gentle smile touched his lips, a smile that always managed to soothe her, even when her own thoughts were troubled. “Ah, Aisha. Come in, my dear. Sit with me for a moment.”
