Chapter 7: The Locket's Voice
Mallory hears Eleanor's voice from the locket, which reveals a hidden secret about the Shadow Man's connection to the locket. As the Shadow Man attacks, Mallory uses the secret to create a distraction, and she and Desmond escape through a newly revealed door, but the Shadow Man pursues them into the real world, leading to a cliffhanger where they face him in the manor's main hall.
The whisper cut through the void like a blade of light, sharp and clear. Mallory's breath caught in her throat as she stared at the locket, which now glowed with a soft, steady luminescence. The shadows around them paused, as if uncertain, and the Shadow Man's form flickered, hissing in confusion.
"Mallory," the voice came again, warm and maternal, a voice that seemed to carry the weight of years. "Listen to me. There is a secret he has buried so deep that even he has forgotten it."
Desmond stirred beside her, his hand finding hers. "Who is that?" he whispered, his voice strained.
