Chapter 5: The Heart of the Manor
Mallory drags Desmond's unconscious body through the dark manor, seeking a way out. She finds the Ghost of Blackwood Manor, who reveals the Shadow Man's tragic origin. Mallory uses her locket to weaken the entity, but the Shadow Man captures both her and Desmond, dragging them deeper into the house.
The cold pressed against Mallory’s skin like a living thing, seeping through her clothes and settling into her bones. “Come on, Des,” she muttered, hooking her arms under his shoulders and pulling him upright. He was heavier than she expected, his body a dead weight that made every step a battle. The floorboards groaned beneath her feet as she dragged him backward, her eyes scanning the endless corridor for any sign of the door they had come through.
