The Next Innings: Life Beyond Cricket

The diary concludes not with an ending, but a new beginning. I write about the peace found in retirement, the joy of simple moments, and the continuing adventure of life.

The final ball had been bowled, the roar of the crowd a fading echo in my ears. The confetti had settled, a gentle snow on the emerald green that had been my battlefield and my sanctuary for so long. It felt surreal, this quiet after the storm. For years, my life had been a crescendo, a relentless build-up to the next match, the next series, the next tournament. Now, there was… stillness. Riya and I took long walks in the park, hand in hand, the kind of aimless wandering we’d only ever dreamed of during my playing days. We’d find a quiet bench, talk about everything and nothing, and I’d marvel at the simple joy of her presence, unburdened by the weight of the world’s expectations of me.
