I finally met his eyes, and the intensity of his stare stole my breath. "Just… contemplating," I managed, my voice betraying none of the turmoil raging within me. Contemplating the absurdity of my existence, the gilded cage I’d married into, and the increasingly unsettling pull I felt towards the man who held the key.
